Have you heard the news? Fed wants to track cattle

In March 2024 the House passed an omnibus spending bill to avoid partial shutdowns and keep half the federal government funded through September 30th.

Amid this $460 billion spending bill (which included funding for many federal programs including agriculture, energy, transportation, housing, the Justice Department, and veterans) was nestled text that allocated $15 million for “related infrastructure” needed for electronically tracking cattle.

That means electronic, or RFID, tags mandated for cattle...

WHY?

The bill alleges that it is needed to comply with the “Federal Animal Disease Traceability Rule.”

Likely story.

We’ve been watching these things come from upstream:

Propaganda about how bad cows are for the environment because of their methane-laden farts (no mention however of corporate oligarchs, and their carbon footprint as they jetset and maintain multiple properties and mansions---far more energy than an average American consumes).

Anyway, their habits are irrelevant. The cows are at fault.

Hey, even Bill Gates says so. And Mark Zuckerberg.

I really trust them and their moral character. I should listen to what they say.

I should get rid of these beautiful bovines who use their amazingly designed four-chambered stomachs to turn grass into delicious, protein-filled beef.

Nevermind that their manure is feeding the soil and the carbon-fixing bacteria that reduce greenhouses grasses.

NO! the solution is to invest in labgrown fake meat.

That will solve all the world’s problems.

Wait, who profits from that? I guess that doesn't matter either...

{END SARCASTIC RANT}

We call out 3 FALSE CLAIMS of FAKE MEAT in this email…BUT I think you know where we stand on the matter.

God made this beautiful planet and the cows (and other ruminants) to work in synchrony. We believe that the meat provided by these animals is a gift to be enjoyed.

As ranchers, we simply facilitate the process of turning grass into protein and share the benefits with our customers.

We don’t need the government mandating to us how to track our cows in the name of protecting everyone from diseases.

(This is a familiar storyline…I think I’ve heard it somewhere before)

No, we’re fine with our eartags and not giving the government access to our information on  what we choose as private citizens to produce as food for other private citizens.

Our customers trust us to produce clean, environmentally-responsible beef.

Case closed.

This livestock tracking bill has been heavily opposed by GOP representatives from Kentucky, Utah, and Tennessee, who took to X, formerly Twitter, to vouch for small farms and ranches who would be harmed by such legislation.

You can read the full article here.

I’m not here to spark political debate…just an honest farmer, trying to earn a living in an old fashioned way.

We do just fine without government intervention…and, frankly, I don’t trust their motives.

We are grateful to elected officials who continue to fight for and represent the small family farms that make up the backbone of the agricultural industry in this country.

We sincerely hope that the way of the future is not more government mandates on our industry, but letting consumers do their homework, and freely choose who they want to help feed their families.
