Pee, Poop, Puke (AND FREEZERS)

Pee, Poop, Puke (AND FREEZERS)

"I just can't seem to get anything done!"  I wailed at Jeff over the dinner table.

"I tried to sit down and finish my research on freezers and the baby wouldn't sleep--ALL DAY!

He puked all over the couch, Obi peed on my floor pillow,  and pooped his pants--AGAIN!!!

It's just impossible to do anything and all I'm trying to do is send out an email!!"

"So why don't you write about that to your customers?" Jeff queried.
"I'm sure many of them can relate...and that's what's really going on in your life, so tell them about it."

Hmmmm. Now that's a thought.

Now that subject line is making  more sense. Haha!

I wanted to just create an educational email on ALL THINGS FREEZER...but instead I  was dealing with all the things that come out of little children's bodies that need cleaning up.

I got overwhelmed, I just felt like quitting life, I even shed a few tears in exasperation. Seems like sometimes I just can't win.

But it was a bad DAY, not the indicator of a bad LIFE. There is a difference!

I repented to the Lord for getting so despondent--for not trusting in Him to give me His strength to carry on through the challenge of my day.

And, TODAY is a new day--“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

If anyone of you can relate about the pressures of life and the "have-to's"  that you fail to check off your list...Tomorrow is another day and, in light of eternity, does any of that stuff really matter?

I'm always grateful that we only have to live one day at a time and how much sleeping can reset our perspective. That is God's grace in action!

But, let's get down to business and talk about DEEP FREEZERS.

Some of you have shared that you need to get one but don't know what to get so let's help you explore your options!

Storage Capacity

Determine how much food you need to store and how much additional space you may require in the future (trust me you'll end up using any extra space you get)

  •    1/8th Beef needs ~2 cu ft.

  •    1/4 Beef ~4 cu ft.

  •    1/2 Beef ~7-8 cu ft.

  •    Whole Beef ~13-15 cu ft.

Type-Chest Freezer or Upright?

Chest freezers have a top-opening lid, are more energy efficient, tend to cost less, must be manually defrosted (ice builds up over time and can cause your freezer to fail)
Price ranges are as follows
5 cu ft- $150-$300
8 cu ft $159-$600
15 cu ft. $450-$900

Upright Freezers resemble a fridge w/ shelves, are easier to organize and access items, most have automatic defrosting, and have less of a footprint (only about 2.5 sq ft)
Price ranges are as follows
5 cu ft-10 $350-$500
15-20 cu ft $550-$1,000

Brand Reputation

There are quite a few reputable brands, but mainly 3 manufacturers who make them.

Frigidaire also manufactures for Kelvinator, some Kenmore and GE models

W.C. Wood manufactures Danby and Whirlpool, some Amana and Maytag models and Hotpoint

Haier manufactures some Kenmore, GE, Maytag and Amana

Consumer Reports recommended a Media freezer,
which is a Chinese brand that also manufactures freezers under the brands Arctic King, Emerson Quiet Kool, Toshiba, and some Kenmore models.

If you choose a brand from among these you should be good.

Also check the warranty--some offer up to a 10 year warranty on major components. I would avoid products that only offer a 1 or 2 year warranty.

Available Features

Some freezers come with additional features like adjustable shelves, interior lighting, temperature alarms, locks (useful if small children are around and to prevent accidentally leaving door open). Evaluate whether these features align with your needs and preferences.

Keep in mind that an internal freezer temperature alarm will not safeguard you in the event of a power outage!

I recommend getting a wifi enabled temperature alarm (not just bluetooth) so that you can be alerted (even when out of town) if you freezer temperature starts warming above a set range.

Here is the best option--
Temp Stick is the top brand recommended, has a 3 yr warranty, is USA made, but is more expensive than some other brands at $139.

Placement

The environment in which the freezer is placed matters. Excessive heat, humidity, or exposure to direct sunlight can affect its performance and lifespan. Make sure it has proper ventilation and space around it.

Protecting the freezer from power surges or fluctuations with surge protectors can help prevent damage to its electrical components.

Some freezer models boast being "GARAGE READY" which means it will be more suited to really cold or really hot temperatures.

GET READY FOR BULK BEEF

Here are the Consumer Reports Top Recommended freezers in their categories.

CR tests thermostat control, temperature uniformity, usable storage capacity, noise output, how long freezer will keep food frozen during a power outage and then rates the freezers accordingly. These were the top performers.

Fill Your Freezer w/ Bulk BEEF

Phew! That was a lot of information! Make sure that your freezer can be delivered in time to store your bulk beef.

If you need to arrange a Delivery date further out, please let us know and we will most likely be able to accommodate that!

PLEASE NOTE: we will only be shipping to Colorado in the month of December. If you are out of state and need your beef after November, it will have to be shipped in January (the holidays put too much strain on shipments and we can't risk the potential delays with a frozen product).

If you have any other questions please let me know!!

Sincerely your RancHER,

Jenika
