Why 47 family farms are LOST EVERY DAY in the US 😢

When you're in the midst of an industry you can miss some things.

I guess when you're in the middle of the trees, you can fail to see the forest.

That's why headlines from the most recent USDA census like "47 Family Farms Lost Every Day in America" take me by surprise.

That would be a nightmare for us. Yet sadly that is a reality for 47 family farms EVERY SINGLE DAY.

In 1935 there were 6.8 million farms in the United States.

In 2023, that number dwindled down to only 1.89 million farms.

Today, 85% of the beef industry in the U.S. is owned by only 4 Corporations:
Cargill, Tyson, Brazil-based National Beef, and JBF.

We used to wholesale beef to a small company that provided beef to Whole Foods.

A couple years ago they were acquired by Perdue (Big Boys).

When they backed out of taking 40 beef that we had contracted to sell them, we were left hanging to unload that inventory quickly.

Thankfully, our local community stepped up to the plate and bought everything we had but, we got the message loud and clear.

When you're dealing with a multi-million dollar corporation, their profits will always come before you.

We never wanted to experience that kind of stress again so we decided to start selling to customers directly again.

This has its own set of challenges but we like being able to connect with people and share the same beef that we feed our own family.

We've been forging ahead in regenerative agriculture since 2006 and have seen more and more people come to us looking for a cleaner, more trustworthy source of beef.

As our business has grown, this has sadly not been the trend nationwide.

Between 2017 and 2023 over 150,000 small family farms had to close their doors.

Interestingly enough, cattle numbers are at a 73-year-low.

The population has more than doubled in that timeframe but there are less cows today than 73 years ago.

This isn't just about statistics, this is an erosion of our American heritage.

As more small, family farms go out of business, we see a threat to our food supply.

Less supply, higher demand, and (as they hope) only 4 companies to control the pricing.

We want to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for being a part of the fringe who have chosen to make local food a priority.

You have chosen to say no the bull the meat packers are trying to sell you at the grocery store and the foreign meat being paraded as a "Product of the USA"

Thank you for supporting our farm and for choosing sustainably raised, locally produced meat!

Because of people like you, our doors are still open and we hope that will be the case for decades to come!

We have a variety of bundles available right now for grilling or easy cuts to throw in the crockpot so you can set it and forget it.
